Pottery. - Ornamental designs are transferred to pottery, chinaware, earthenware, &c. by transfer sheets applied by hand to the article and pressed into contact therewith by a revolving brush or buffing - device, which is carried by a vertical, horizontal, inclined, or flexible shaft operated in any suitable manner, such as by belt and rope pulleys, gearing, an electric or o t h e r motor, &c. The article may be moved into contact with the revolving brush ; or it may be supported on a table, the brush being then driven by a flexible connexion and mounted so as to allow it to be moved mto contact with the article. In the example shown, the revolving brush e is lowered into contact with the article by operating a footlever i connected by link j to a lever h, which engages with a loose collar h1 on the brush spindle c. The article is then fixed with coal, gas, or other suitable beat, which destroys the paper and eliminates the oils &c. from the ink.
