Receptacles and stands for apparatus.-Relates to a buoy for indicating the position of sunken vessels, saving life, and other purposes, which is normally carried on a frame secured to the deck of a vessel and provided with a line between it and the vessel, and comprises an improved supporting- means for the buoy and the arrangement of a number of life-buoys on the outer surface of the main buoy. The buoy 5, of double conoidal shape, is divided by an horizontal partition, the upper compartment 8 being intended as a receptacle for valuables or food. The buoy carries a bell 12, a set of rings 15 for holding life-buoys, and a ring 13, to which one end of a line 14 is attached. The other end of the line is coiled around a drum 23 supported in bearings 24 in a cylindrical shell 20, fixed to the deck and adapted to carry the buoy. Slots in the shell allow access to the drum and provide inlets for water to float the buoy should the vessel sink. The life-buoys 16 are attached to the rings 15 by snap-hooks 17, in such a manner that they hang vertically outside the frame 20 when the buoy 5 is seated on the lugs 21.
