This Circular provides guidance on GMDSS equipment requirements for all GMDSS211u001eapplicable vessels by the final implementation date of February 1, 1999, and is 211u001eapplicable to both U.S. and non-U.S. flagged vessels. The information in this 211u001eCircular reflects the final phase-in for GMDSS, and summarizes EPIRB requirements 211u001ethat are now published in Coast Guard and FCC regulations. Only EPIRB 211u001erequirements are summarized for non-GMDSS applicable vessels; communication 211u001erequirements not covered by GMDSS are not explained in this Circular.
