Mud - guards. - The wheels of motor and other vehicles, and the rotary brushes of roadsweeping machines, are partly surrounded by surfaces studded with projecting fibres, bristles, wires, and the like, to intercept the dust when raised and prevent it from being diffused into the atmosphere. Fig- 1 shows one form of apparatus for use with a motorvehicle. Curved frames 1 with flexible lower extensions 6 are fixed to or used in place of the ordinary mud-guards, and form guides for a series of wooden or metal strips carrying tufts 2 of fibre, wire, or the like, mounted thereon in staggered rows. The strips and plates may be curved to correspond with the periphery of the tyre, or different tufts of material may be varied in length for the same purpose. Fig. 4 shows plates covered 'with tufts of similar material mounted in the front and on the top of the rotary brush of a road-sweeping machine.
