Dark boxes. - A collapsible box forming a dark-chamber for daylight developing is fitted with non-actinic windows, light-tight arm-holes, developing and fixing tanks, and a spindle with a roller sliding upon and rotating with it; upon the roller a flexible band is wound having a clip for attaching the plate or film-carrier whereby the plates can be raised and lowered into adjacent baths. The box is constructed with four detachable sides a, a1, b, b1, a lid d, and base e, Figs. 4 and 13. One edge of each side c is bent at right-angles, and fits between the adjacent side and an inner strip c1 which is connected to the side by the shorter strip c2. The hollow roller f is formed with flanges f1 which fit within a recess formed upon the sides of the box. The roller is slotted, and the sliding spindle g is connected to the outer sliding roller g2 by a screw extending through the slot. The roller g2 can thus be moved into position over any of three adjacent tanks i, i1, i2, the flanges g4 registering the roller over the outside tanks i, i2. The fabric h with a plate-clip h' is wound ¾n the roller g2. An additional base for the tanks consists of a wire frame such as j, Fig. 6. The light-tight operating-sleeves b3 are fitted to the sides of the box, and non-actinic windows are fitted in the front and rear faces. An auxiliary non-actinic window a4 is fitted over one of these by means of a ledge a5 and turnbutton a6, Fig. 3, to exclude light more effectively. In the case of a slowly dissolving substance, a small receptacle is used with a false bottom and with a hook to engage the upper edges of the tank. For readily - dissolving substances, the receptacle is used with a plain bottom.
