Protectors, construction of; countersunk tips.- These are formed on both their treads and edges with grooves or ribs 2, 2a, Figs. 5 and 6, to facilitate cutting and shaping them to suit different sizes of heels. In the case of tips, the edges may be of similar contour to enable a tip to be adjusted to a French heel, or, by reversing it, to an American heel. In other cases, the front edge 4 of the tip is shaped as shown in Fig. 2, to engage the two leather lifts A, B of the heel. The tips are either moulded separately, or are cut from a length of rubber, Fig. 8, having one or both of its edges 10 moulded to the proper shape.
