23,429. Whish, A. C. Oct. 14. Resistances for heating and other purposes. A long length of resistant strip or wire c, Fig. 3, is placed between wider strips of mica or other insulating-material a, b, and the whole enclosed between metal strips d, c, the edges of one metal strip being bent over so as to press together the edges of the mica as shown. The joints may be made liquid-tight. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, a single metal covering-strip f is used, the edges being brought together as a butt or lap joint. Otherwise the metal cover may be formed by squirting over the mica, its edges being afterwards compressed. Wire of circular, oval or square section may be used for the resistance. In order to strengthen the ends of the resistance, the strip may be doubled back on itself, or additional strips may be secured to it.
