Ink-ribbon mechanism. -In multicolour printing - arrangements for workmen's time-recorders &c. in which a multicolour ink-ribbon is mounted in a carrier which is shifted at intervals, the carrier is mounted pivotally or pendulum - wise and is arranged to be brought to a mid-position by the shifting mechanism and then to be moved by the aid of gravity into its end positions. In the arrangement shown, the carrier m is pivoted in the cross-bars n, p and is provided with pins h, i engaging a wave-wheel g secured to a shaft d which is driven step - by - step, preferably by known mechanism of the following character. A clockdriven disk r is provided with noses s adapted to engage a spring-tensioned lever b on a shaft a carrying an arm c provided with a pawl c2 which engages a ratchet-wheel e on the shaft d. The shaft a also carries an anchor f1 f2 adapted to engage a star-wheel e1 and prevent accidental forward movements of the ratchet-wheel e. Backward movement of the ratchet-wheel is prevented by a detent c1. In operation, as each nose s trips the lever b, the ratchet-wheel e is operated and the wave-wheel g is stepped forward and the carrier is moved to the right by one of the waves g1 or to the left by one of the waves g3, the carrier being moved by the waves to a mid-position and being then aided by gravity in moving to its end positions. The carrier may be balanced by a weight q.
