Indicating on vehicles their position on road.- A strip map can be driven in either direction by feed-rollers m actuated from the wheels of a vehicle, and its ends are connected to spools i, l which are oppositely tensioned by spring drums j2, so that as the map moves in either direction, the spring drum of the spool from which it unwinds is wound up. When the lid b is opened, both spools are automatically locked by spring catches j4, Fig. 3. The reversing-mechanism comprises a lever o1 carrying pinions o2, 03, one or other of which engages a pinion m1 according to the position of the lever. The pinion o, which drives the pinions o2, o3, is rotated through a flexible shaft and double worm gear n4, n5, n6, n7. When the lever o' is in its central position, the pinion m' is free, and the roller m can be rotated by a thumb-wheel m2 to adjust the map. The map may be illuminated by a lamp h. In addition to the main pointer c1 distance-indicating pointers c, c are provided.
