Mine props.-A device to facilitate the placing and securing in position of mine props comprises two rectangular frames A, one at each side of the prop and clamped thereon by means of screws C, and a three-sided frame D1 slidable through sockets E in each frame and normally pressed upwards by springs F so that the free ends D extend beyond the upper end of the prop. The frames D' are depressed by levers G while the prop is being placed in position, and are then released and hold the prop by being forced by the springs against the roof. A wedge or packing X is then introduced above the prop and between the frames, and the frames are then unclamped and removed. Forked members may be fitted on the ends D to carry roof timbers. The invention is applicable to props for the sides of mines, tunnels, quarries, &c.
