Upward-current classifiers.-In a washer for separating stones and other foreign matter from grain, wherein the grain is fed from an inlet 12 into an annulus 17 up which water flows from an inlet 4, a detachable top fitting is provided comprising a funnel 8, an annular chamber 9, and a delivery spout 11 fitting inside the usual spout 11a, and inner hopper 13 being also provided which projects above the level of, the hopper 9a. The outlet 20 for stones &c. is provided with two valves 18, 19, and the inner casing 15 has a perforated top 16 and inclined vanes 16a.
