Aerial machines without aerostats; propelling.- Aeroplanes, hydro-aeroplanes, air-ships, &c. are provided with one or more centrifugal fan runners preferably of the type described in Specifications 11,591/08, [Class 110 (ii), Rotary engines &c.], and 23,096/10, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.], which are adapted to discharge one or more columns of air for propelling, steering, and lifting. Fig. 7 shows the arrangement of the fans on an air-ship. For propelling and steering purposes, a pair of fans 30 is arranged at the rear, as shown, and for lifting or checking a descent a fan 32 is arranged centrally. The upper end of the duct 31 admitting air to the fan 32 is disposed at an angle to the horizontal, and the fan is arranged within a deflector 15 serving to deflect the air downwards.
