Electrolytes.-A primary cell having a zinc anode and an alkaline electrolyte is given a content of zincate before the cell is finished, or, in the case of a closed cell, before the cell is closed. This may be accomplished by directly adding alkaline-zincate, or zinc oxide, or an oxidizing-means, for example a hypochlorite, or by the action of an electric current, shortcircuiting, and so on. The amount of zincate is approximately two to eight equivalents for each hundred equivalents of alkali. The cell is said to have a high degree of durability and immutability against deterioration during storage.
