112,180. Dobbs, H. T., and John, E. T. Jan. 29, 1017. Road traffic signals on vehicles; ships course signals.-Apparatus for signalling the direction of travel of road vehicles, sleighs, ships, &c. comprises a cylindrical casing, which may be illuminated at night, carrying at each end a disk having an arrow or other shaped hole. In one form, the casing and disk are rotatable together within a fixed guidiag-member, and in a second form, the disk is rotatable in front of the glazed surface of the fixed casing, the direction of the arrow indicating the direction in which the vehicle &c. is about to turn. In the first form, the disks a, a1, Figs. 1 and 2, having arrow-shaped holes c covered by glass plates f of different colours, are secured to the ends of a cylindrical casing d, which is formed with an annular groove d1 to receive a grinding and supporting member, preferably formed in two parts h, h1, secured by screws i. Each part h, h1 is formed integral with a bracket arm h3, h4 provided with a hole to engage a supporting bracket j. The disk a may be hinged at b to afford access to the casing, within which are mounted filament lamps o. The casing and disks may be rotated within the guiding-members h, h1 by a handle k, spring catches m retaining the casing &c. in the set position. In the second form, the disks a, a1, Fig 4, having arrow-shaped holes e, are secured to segmental sleeves d, which are connected to the forked arms k1 of a handle k, and move around the outer surface of a fixed cylindrical casing t1, having glazed ends f over which the stencil disks a, a1 move. Grinding- members h, formed integral with the bracket arm, pass around the upper part of the casing t1 and are formed with recessed portions to receive and guide the parts d1 of the segmental sleeves carrying the stencil disks. The apparatus may be operated automatically by Bowden wire from the steering-wheel of a motor-vehicle.
