Time-checking apparatus, check-and-token.-A time-checking device for watchmen &c. comprises a box divided into a number of timemarked compartments into one of which a watchman drops a check or token at each visit, and by pulling back a slide covering the aperture of the compartment into which the token has been inserted a code word or message is disclosed, which the watchman is able to telephone to a distant station or record on the travelling-sheet of an adjacent clock-driven timing-device. The box 1 has upper and lower covers 10, 2, which are both shown as opened out in plan view, Fig. 1, each with a token aperture 19, 3 respectively, through which a token may be dropped into a compartment at a time marked on a tablet 11. The slide 5 of the compartment corresponding is then pulled back by means of a pin 9 projecting through the slot 19 in the upper cover, thereby closing the token aperture and uncovering a tablet 4, on which is written a code word or message. This is visible through a slot 12 in the upper cover 10. The slide members 5 are guided by side strips 6 and are arranged to be held in the open or closed position by catches 7. These catches are spring-pressed members, positioned so that one presses against the under surface of the slide when the slide is in the closed position, the other catch 7 being arranged to engage the edge of the slide when it has been moved to close the token aperture 3.
