Catch gear of f mine-cage type.-In safety suspending-gear for mine cages, auxiliary cables u connecting the cages are passed round pulleys j mounted in slidable bearings g in brackets e on the head gear and normally maintained clear of brake blocks k, m by weighted levers p pivoted to the brackets e at p2. Each lever has a pin- and-slot connection with the corresponding bearing g and is connected by a link q to a lever r which is pivoted to the bracket e at s and has a pin-and-slot connection with the slidable upper brake block m. The lower brake block k is supported by springs o. When the winding rope breaks, the pressure of the cables u causes the pulleys to move down into contact with the brake blocks k, and the downward movement of each pulley through the lever p and linkage q, r causes the application of the block m to the upper part of the pulley.
