Bottling; ' crown corks,' applying. - A rotary bottle-carrier or syruper is adapted to transfer bottles one at a time from their supports thereon to other supports on a rotary bottle-filling machine rotating on an axis separate from that of the carrier or syruper, and mechanism is provided for transferring the filled bottles from their supports on the filling-machine to a sealing- machine, centring them therein, and discharging them therefrom. As shown, bottles are fed to a carrier 1, which may also be a syruping-machine, whence they are transferred singly to the filling- machine 2 and from there to a sealing-machine 3. To the lower part of a sleeve 11, Fig. 3, keyed to rotate with a sleeve 6 supporting the syruping- heads but free to move vertically relatively thereto, are pivoted bell-crank levers 12 provided with rollers 14 and supporting bottle-holders 15 provided with rollers 17 and pressed against a rest 19 by springs 18. As the syruper rotates, a cam 20 engages the rollers 14 to lower the bottles from the syrup heads and a. cam 21 engages the rollers 17 to tilt the bottle-holders and bring the bottles into the path of filling-heads 24 on the filling- machine 2, whereupon grips 28 remove the bottle from the syruper. To adapt the machine to bottles of different sizes, the sleeve 11 is supported by a table 22 adjustable vertically by simultaneously-operated screwed rods 81. Above each filling-head 24, a. trip lever 47 operated, as the filling-machine rotates, by stationary tappet rollers 48, 49, raises and lowers a lever 40 pivoted to a rod 42 resiliently connected at its lower end to a bar 31, which slides in a slot in a disc 32 supported by the central support 26 of the filling- machine. Each bar 31 supports a. bracket 30 carrying rods 29, Fig. 8, about which the grips 28 pivot and extensions 39 of the grips are engaged by a collar 37 fixed to the end of a rod 35 secured to the table 36 carrying the filling- heads and surrounded by a spring 34 which abuts against a movable collar 38. When the roller 49 operates the lever 47, it lifts the rod 42 and the collar 38 engages the extensions 39, first closing the grips 28 and then raising the bottle to the filling-head. After filling and when the bottle is opposite the sealing machine, the roller 48 causes the lever 47 to lower the rod 42, causing the collar 37 to engage the extension 39 and so free the bottle from the grips 28 to allow it to fall on to a hinged rest 50, Fig. 4, thrust into position by a rod 66 actuated through a bracket 67 by a lever 65, Fig. 9, which also actuates claws 54 by which the bottle is drawn beneath the sealing-head 52. The lever 65 is actuated by an arm 75 which is engaged by a cam 76 on a driving-wheel 77. The claws 54 are pivoted to a slide 56 sliding on rods 57 fixed to a bracket 53 secured to the table 22. A second slide 58 sliding on extensions 59 of the slide 56 has slots 60 in which slide the ends of the claws 54 and upright projections 62, 63 between which the end of the lever 65 operates. When the lever 65 moves the slide 58 against the slide 56, the ends of the claws 54 moving in the slots 60 cause the claws to open and further movement of the slides thrusts them forward to receive the bottle, which has dropped on to the hinged rest 50. As the lever 65 returns to its original place, the slide 58 moves from the slide 56 closing the claws and drawing the bottle beneath the sealing-head 52, the previously-sealed bottle being simultaneously moved off the support 51 into a discharge shoot to make room for the unsealed one. Specifications 11426/13 and 4066/15 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the bottles from the sealing machine are engaged one by one by arms on an intermittently rotating vertical shaft and carried in succession to a pasting-device comprising a pad which applies adhesive to the bottles, a labelling-device which applies a packet of labels to the pasted spaces on the bottles and removes it, leaving one label adhering to each bottle, and to wipers, rollers, &c. for smoothing the labels.
