Starting.-A compressed air or like distributor for starting in either direction comprises beat valves 13, one for each cylinder, a. rocking shaft 6 carrying arms which pivotally support tappet fingers 15, a pair of enlargements 17, 18 upon each tappet finger adapted to coact alternatively with the corresponding cam surfaces of cams 9, 10 on an engine-driven shaft 1, and an arm 21 on the shaft 6 furnished with two cam surfaces 22, 23 which effect opening of a main air or like valve simultaneously with the movement of the tappet fingers into either of their two operative positions. The device may be provided with an air-compresser as described in Specification 187,748. Specifications 22693/14, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], and 182,513 are also referred to.
