192,157. Longmore, J. Oct. 27, 1921. Steam and other power cultivation.-Apparatus for drawing a plough &c. backwards and forwards between movable anchors by means of cables led around the field comprises two sets of blocks and tackles and special anchors, guide pulleys, and cable and block connections. Fig. 6 shows the arrangement of the apparatus. The two cables D pass through blocks B on the anchors A and one-way plough C and round guide-pulleys E at the corners of the field, the cables being drawn out by horses travelling backwards and forwards around the field, or by means of a two-drum winding-engine, or a horse-gear. The tackle may be so arranged that there are one, two, or more lengths of cable between the plough and anchor blocks, according to the power required. Two or more guide pulleys may be placed at each corner of the field. The anchor consists of one or more lengths of channel-iron or railway rail. Fig. 1 shows a method of fastening two lengths A of channel-iron together and pegging them down. A strap B is passed round the adjacent ends and fastened to them by loose pins B1 and to the ground by a peg C. As the ploughing proceeds, the rear length is moved to the forward end. The rails or channels may rest on other rails or channels inserted in a trench or furrow. The pulleyblocks are connected to the rails A by hooks or by clips or stirrups secured by loose pins. Fig. 3 shows a corner guide pulley mounted on a steel tube G which is reduced in diameter at the end and twisted into the form of a screw so that it may be driven and screwed into the ground. The concave or flanged pulley H rests on a washer or ring K above a wooden or other block L sunk in the ground, and is prevented from rising off the spindle C by a pin J. The barrel of the flanged pulley shown is constructed of spaced bars I. Fig. 5 shows the connection between a cable and a pulley block. The eye or thimble E at the end of the cable is made small enough to pass through the block A, and the hook D that receives it is fastened to the block by a swivel C and split link B. A swivel is also provided at the other end of the cable.
