213,635. Groshek, P. Dec. 4, 1922. Variable-speed gearing.-The axles 4 of a truck are driven through two-speed reversing gearing. A vertical countershaft 9 driven by worm-gearing carries two bevel pinions 10, 11 which can be engaged with outer and inner rings of teeth on bevel-wheels 17, 18. Hand-levers 26, 30 for sliding the pinions 10, 11 on their shaft are interlocked so that both wheels cannot be put in gear at the same time. For this purpose, a bell-crank lever is turned so as to clear one lever while blocking the path of the other. The wheels 17, 18 are connected together and moved along the propelling shaft 12 for reversing, the mechanism giving two speeds in each direction.
