摘要
240,891. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Koppers Co.). June 5, 1924. Sulphur.-Hydrogen sulphide and other impurities are transferred from a gas to a stream of air which is washed with a liquid containing an iron compound wherebv the hydrogen sulphide in the air is decomposed, the air washing liquid being regenerated by treatment with air. This removal of the impurities from the air may be applied to air whatever its origin. The gas to be treated enters a washer 1 by an inlet 3 and escapes by an outlet 14 and is treated therein with an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound such as sodium carbonate entering from a pipe 2 the foul solution passing into a sump 4 and being treated with air in a tower 6, the regenerated solution being pumped back from a sump 8 to the washer 1. The air supplied by the blower 7 when charged with hydrogen sulphide, carbon-dioxide and hydrogen cyanide is passed by a pipe 9 to a washer A in which it is treated with a suspension preferably in an alkaline solution of an iron compound which absorbs and oxidizes the hydrogen sulphide in the presence of the air to free sulphur. An air agitator 10 assists the reaction. Any sodium thiosulphate formed may be recovered by the means described in Specification 209,169. Suitable iron compounds are ferric or basic ferric carbonate, ferric oxide or hydroxide, ferrous oxide or hydroxide or ferrous carbonate. The alkaline solution may be sodium or potassium carbonate or hydroxide or similar magnesium or calcium compounds. Alternatively, the iron oxide may be suspended in water. Specifications 169,996 and 170,572, [both in Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], also are referred to.
