243,447. Burmah Oil Co., Ltd., Allan, H. L., and Moore, J. Aug. 29, 1924. Addition to 208,195. Waxes, purifying.-The sweating and crystallizing apparatus described in the parent Specification and comprising horizontal heating and cooling cells 13 alternating with containers 17 adapted to be filled with wax so that sweating takes place in absence of air, is modified in the following respects :- (1) The compartments 17 are charged and discharged through a vertical chamber 15 situated outside the stove and which is open to each compartment and is fed and emptied through a pipe 14. This chamber is provided with doors 16 and windows 30, and with pipes 21, 23 for admitting and discharging steam to and from a removable grid of pipes used to melt the wax in the chamber. (2) Each compartment 17 is provided with a thin circular ring or fin 11 suspended from the cell 13 above so as to hang just clear of the perforated false bottom 18. A gap is made in the ring facing the chamber 15, and air-escape holes 20 directly opposite. A steam-pipe is arranged outside the casing 10 to maintain a passage for the escaping air, and a cylinder 36 of gauze or perforated expanded metal supports the wax between the rings 11 and the casing. (3) Uniform heating or cooling of each compartment 17 is attained by suspending a plurality of solid fins 29 from the cell 13 above, and by giving the water a sinuous path through each cell'13. (4) The floor 18 of each compartment 17 is formed of metal gauze or perforated expanded metal in two semicircular pieces and a removable central strip. (5) The cells 13 are loosely supported on each other by packing pieces inserted between the floors 18 and the lower ends of the pins 29. (6) Preferably a number of stoves are built in two rows with the stoves of each row slightly inclined towards those of the other.
