247,789. Heppell, W. J. April 27, 1925. Resistance to propulsion, reducing; hulls.-A construction of bottom particularly applicable to ships employing air lubrication, as it is designed to provide the propeller with solid water by effecting the clearance aft of the lubricating fluid from the propellers, comprises an extension or sole piece a, Fig. 2, forming a flanged track for the lubricating fluid extending aft to the rudder post. The track is secured to the hull by brackets b. In a modification, the use of re-entering frames causes the formation of grooves s, Fig. 6, in the shell plating and permits of a wide propeller aperture. The construction may be applied to the bows. Specification 232,472 is referred to.
