Compound flooring blocks.-In preparing large flooring slabs in which a number of wooden blocks are assembled and backed by concrete or the like to form a composite slab, the individual blocks are interlocked to prevent lifting or separation by forming rectangular or wedgeshaped projections on some edges of each block which engage corresponding recesses on the other edges of adjacent blocks. Fig. 1 illustrates a slab and Fig. 5 a block in which the lower portions of some of the edges are cut away, and the upper portions of others, thereby forming projections 8 and recesses 6 for co-operating with adjacent blocks. When the projections and recesses are wedgeshaped, a dovetailed connection is produced which prevents both lifting and lateral separation of the blocks. The large slabs may be formed with similar projections and recesses for, securing them to adjacent slabs in laying, or they may be grooved to receive strips 15, Fig. 13, of sheet metal formed with L-shaped lugs 16 which are bent downwardly and screwed to the joists or like foundation members.
