Effect of Floor Covering on the Impact Isolation on Various Floor/Ceiling Assemblies

There are several large collections of the acoustical performance of floor/ceilings. These include publications by Russell DuPree at the California Office of Noise Control~1 and Alf Warnock at the National Research Council of Canada2'3. Both of these publications are very through. However, Dupree is several decades old and Warnock has very limited 1/3 octave band information for floor/ceilings with different floor coverings. In this paper, laboratory measurements of several floor/ceilings assemblies will be shared each with several different floor coverings. Differences in acoustical performance between different floor coverings on the same base assembly will be compared as well and the differences in acoustical performance of the floor covering on different base assemblies. All measurements were conducted in the same third-party accredited laboratory to eliminate issues of laboratory reproducibility. Variation due to laboratory repeatability was minimized by conducting the measurements within a short amount of time.
