257,156. McPherson, J. Jan. 9, 1926. Blowpipe burners. - Oxyacetylene cutting and welding burners are fitted for igniting purposes with a bye-pass pipe F leading from the acetylene inlet connection D to near the burner nozzle B. The bye-pass pipe is fitted at its end with a small burner nozzle which is surrounded by a shield H as protection against draughts. Fig. 1 shows a welding burner for ordinary use. Figs. 3 and 4 show burner nozzles for under-water welding and cutting respectively, each surrounded by a casing I to which compressed air is supplied through a pipe K for dispersing the water from around the flame. The metal rod used as the filling agent during welding is introduced through an aperture L in the casing. In cutting, a tube B1 of mica, porcelain, or other heat-resisting material is placed on the nozzle B to obviate the chilling effect of the composed air on the flame. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 132,869.
