367,829. Igniting submerged burners. DAVIS, R. H., 187, Westminster Bridge Road, London. Nov. 19, 1930, No. 34843. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii).] A device for igniti n g oxy-acetylene and like metal-cutting burners under water comprises a bell 1 containing an electrically - heated wire 7, a gas or oil burner or other ignition means. The wire 7 is coiled around, and connected to terminals 8 on, an insulating rod 2. The terminals may be connected by leads 9, extending through a flexible cable or conduit 11, to an electric supply provided on an attendant surface vessel or to a battery provided on the bell. To maintain the latter free of water, more particularly when a gas or oil burner is employed, compressed air or other gas may be supplied from the surface vessel through the conduit 11, or a separate conduit 14, or from a cylinder located adjacent the bell. A window 15 is provided at each side of the bell.
