255,648. Dausmann, C. F. Aug. 5, 1925. Transferring designs.- Apparatus for transferring carbon tissue sheets T, Fig. 1, on to a copper cylinder C comprises means for rotatably supporting the cylinder and adjustable gauge devices 31 adapted to be engaged with index means on the sheet T to hold it in a predetermined position whilst it is secured in such position. The whole sheet is then pressed on the cylinder by a pressure roller 22. The cylinder C is mounted on spaced rollers 12 at one end of two rail supports constituted by two pairs of spaced castings 11 and two rigid connecting bars 10. The castings are adjustably spaced along channeled rails 8, for rollers of different sizes, by screw shafts 14 each having right and left handed threads. These are interconnected by the shaft 17 and operated from the handle 15 at one side of the frame. The registering and transfer mechanism is mounted on supports 7 at one end of the machine, and the developing apparatus at the other end. The pressure roller and preliminary adjusting mechanism are mounted on a framework comprising the supports 7, the transverse shaft 19 carrying pivoting beams 20 connected by a bar 21 and a counterweight roller 43. The adjusting mechanism 31 is mounted on curved arms 24 pivoting on the shaft 23, and can be raised from the cylinder C after the adjustment of one end of a sheet thereon by the handle 32 and held inoperative during the successive pressing operation by a projection 34 turning with the shaft 23 and a notch in a resilient arm 35. The turning movement of the handle 32 is limited by a stop means 33. For the preliminary adjustment a number of gauge members 29, Fig. 4, with spring extensions 31 are slidably adjustable along a transverse bar 25 connecting the curved arms 24. The extensions 31 overlap the bevelled edge of a straight metal plate 26 secured to the bar 25, and are used to register the incisions or the like T1, Fig. 5, in the carbon sheet, the edge of which is then temporarily stuck on the cylinder, and by this means any number of sheets can be registered on the periphery of the cylinder. The pressure of the roller 22 on the cylinder is adjusted from the graduated handle 41 through gearing 39, 38. After the sheet is attached to the cylinder, the latter is rolled along the rails 11, 10 to another set of rollers 12' for treatment in a developing trough 47 as described in Specification 255,789.
