The pump cylinder 3 for actuating the ram 1 of a hydraulic jack is surrounded by a casing 7 secured in position by set-screws 8. The handle 9 actuates the pump by means of an arm 4 engaging a slotted enlargement 10 on the pump rod 5. The casing 7 prevents injury to the pump cylinder through the lower part of the slotted enlargement striking the cylinder at the bottom of its stroke.
