Piston packing.-In packing for stuffing-boxes and pistons of the type comprising two rings 1, 3 with engaging ribs and recesses 2, 4, the rings are divided into halves, with the joints of the two rings arranged at right angles, and the half rings are treated by hammering or rolling to cause the ends to spring inwards or outwards, thus causing contraction or expansion of the packing.
