Device for driving records from, and in the reverse direction to, the turntable of agramophone or the like

Turntables.-A device for use on an ordinary gramophone, to enable a record to be play-end backwards, consists of a support for the record which is adapted to be fitted over the turntable, and which is provided with means for rotating the record in the opposite direction to that of the turntable. The device shown comprises a disc 6 having three radial arms 7 carrying rollers 10 with rubber or like tyres 12, the disc being provided with a boss 4 which is recessed to fit over the end of the turntable spindle 3, and also having an upstanding pin 13. When the boss 4 is in engagement with the spindle 3, with the rollers on the turntable 2, a re,cord is placed so as to rest on the rollers, the pin 13 engaging in its central hole. Means are provided for preventing bodily movement of the whole device: for example, an adjustable arm 16 attached to the disc 6 may engage in a corner of the gramophone casing. The rollers are thus driven when the turntable rotates, and drive the record supported thereon in the direction opposite to that in which it is ordinarily rotated. In a modification, the reversing device is supported from the casing of the machine, for example by means of four adjustable radial arms. It is stated that the invention enables a gramophone record to produce " weird and amusing sounds," and also serves to clean and improve used records.
