336,622. Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Clark, G. F. July 12, 1929. Stopping.-A. stop device for gramophones is operated when a member rotated in frictional engagement with a rotating part of the machine is engaged by a pivoted member 12 movable about its pivot by the sound-arm 5, and an extended movement of the sound-arm is adapted to look the pivoted member in the stopping position. The pivoted member is moved into stopping position and locked therein by an extended movement of the. soundarm either in the same direction as that in which it moves during playing, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, or in the opposite direction, as shown in Fig. 6. The pivoted lever 12 is movable between two positions determined by stops 16, 17, Figs. 4 and 6, or a pin 33, Fig. 3, engaging a slot 34 in the lever, and the end 18 of an arm 15 of said lever is movable into or out of the path of a number of projections 19 on a sleeve 20 which is in frictional engagement with a boss 21 on the turntable. The sound-arm 5 is adapted to operate a lever 3 which is in frictional engagement at 4 with a, second lever 7 engaging the lever 12. The arm 18 is adapted to be inserted into the path of the projections 19 to stop the turntable when the stylus enters an eccentric groove at the end of a record, as described in Specification 316,731. When the sound-arm is given an extended movement in the playing direction, an arm 29, Fig. 3, on the lever 3 engages a cam surface 31 on the lever 12 so as to insert, and lock, the device in the stopping position. The lever 12, in this case, is in two pivoted parts 121, 1211 connected by a spring 32. A roller 6 on the lever 3 is adapted to engage a cam surface 44 on an arm 14 of the lever 12 so as to release the stopping mechanism when the sound-arm is moved to starting position. The lever 3, Fig. 4, is connected to an arm 36 fixed to the sound-arm through a link 37 having a hook-shaped end 38 engaging a pin 39 on the lever 12. The lever 3. Fig. 6, has a roller 6 which is adapted to engage a cam surface 43 on the lever 12 to stop the gramophone when tha sound-arm, is moved in a reverse direction to that of playing to the position shown in dotted lines. The roller 6 is also adapted to engage a cam surface 44 to release the stopping mechanism when the sound-arm is moved outwardly alter automatic operation of the stop devlosi by means of the eccentric groove in the record.
