[Class 40 (ii)] Relates to automatic stopping devices for talking machines of the kind in which a striking lever on an arm frictionally coupled to the tone-arm co-operates with a combined cam and striker to stop the machine when the tone-arm stops its inward movement. According to the invention, the striking lever is a double-armed lever 7 pivoted at 8 on the arm 6 frictionally coupled to the tone-arm 1, one arm of the striking lever carries a striking nose 10, and the other arm carries a switch operating member 12 and a finger 9 co-operating with a lever 3 coupled by a pin and slot 5, 4 to the tone-arm, so that when the tone-arm is swung out to the beginning of the record, the member 12 closes a switch 16, 17 and the motor is started. While the tone-arm moves inwards, the striking lever is held in the switch closing position by a yielding spring catch 11, 14, and the striking nose 10 moves out of the path of the striker 26 and against a cam 24, which returns the nose 10 outwards into the path of the striker. This goes on until the tone-arm stops its inward motion, whereupon the nose 10 remains in the path of the striker 26 and the striking lever is rocked to open the switch.
