[Class 97 (iii).] The disturbances produced in an E÷tv÷s torsion balance by sudden changes of temperature are eliminated by arranging suitable bodies in the innermost casing of the balance and moving them along the beam as well as towards or away from the beam to positions found empirically to be most effective, the bodies being then fixed in position. The Figure shows one form of body, comprising a metal base a of triangular form, one side of the triangle being straight and the other two curved, and sheet metal strips b, c, d extending upwards from the edges of the triangle.
