SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Schmidt'sche Heissdampf Ges. ; 2, Rolandstrasse, Wilhelmshohe, Cassel, Germany.) July 17, 1930, No. 21635. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii).] A high-pressure water-tube boiler for locomotives is provided with a superheater consisting of horizontal superposed serpentine tube elements 20 each connected to inlet and outlet headers 21, 22 by tubes 18, 19 arranged below and supporting the bends of the elements, the group of elements being surrounded by further superheating tubes 24 connected to the headers and serving to hold the elements together and to suspend them from the boiler drums. Two superheaters are arranged between the water-tube firebox section 1 and the multitubular preheater boiler 14, some of the tubes 10 on each side of the locomotive being left out for the lateral insertion of the superheaters. The high pressure steam may be generated in a drum 5 by circulating the steam from the boiler tubes around and beyond the firebox through heating coils 4 in the drum. The superheater elements and headers are suspended from brackets 29, 32 secured to the drums.
