In a self-excited electrophoretic process for the deposition of rubber using short-circuited electrodes of different materials and a depolarizing medium, the conductivity of the dispersion is maintained below 600 X 10 -4 ohms. -1 cms. -1 and cathodes consisting entirely or superficially of easily reducible metal peroxides are employed. Ammoniacal latex for treatment according to the invention should contain little or no additional electrolyte. The electrodes should be such as to give an initial potential difference of 1 volt. The cathodes may be of lead peroxide, nickel oxide, cobaltic oxide or barium peroxide and the anodes of zinc, lead or cadmium. The cathodes may be prepared by anodic oxidation in sulphuric acid. Separation of rubber is effected on the anode or on a porous mould in front of it. Vulcanized dispersions and those containing the usual addition agents may be treated. Detailed examples are given.
