Vacuum tubes; R÷ntgenray tubes.-In high-tension discharge tubes, the envelope of which consists partly of a conducting and partly of a nonconducting material sealed at the joints, the seals are protected by a surface coating of conducting material, such as a strip of tin or other metal foil or a local coating of silver, applied either on one or both of the surfaces of the envelope. The invention is shown applied to an X-ray tube in Fig. 1. A conducting coating 16, such as tin-foil, is arranged around the seal 5 between the metal and glass parts of the tube and is in contact with the metal and extends over the glass a short distance from the seal. The edge 17 of the coating may be curled away from the glass. In addition, shields 14, 15 may be provided on the anticathode and on the metal part of the tube as shown. The invention is described as applied to an oscillationgenerating tube.
