Improvements in or relating to the conversion of distillates from coal and the like into products of lower boiling point

The process described in the parent Specification for increasing the proportion of products of low boiling point in distillates obtained from the distillation of coal, peat, lignite, shale &c. by passing the whole of the distillates in the vapour phase through a silent electric discharge, is modified in that only a part of the distillate is passed through the discharge. The vapours may first be condensed, re-vaporized, mixed with methane, hydrogen, &c. or the gases produced in the process, and then passed through the discharge.
