[Class 80 (ii).] In bonds for uniting a hollow member to an outer member by expansion by means of a plug, e.g., in built-up crank shafts, two or more separate members 11, 12, 13 and 14, 15, 16 are used in place of single plugs. They may vary in diameter as shown or be of the same diameter ; or be tapering to form a composite conical plug, the bore of the hollow member being tapered to correspond. If the plugs are not tapered expansion is obtained by forcing them into the outer member when the latter is hot or when the plugs have been cooled, e.g. by means of liquid air.
