Process for the production of lacquers containing artificial resins and of materials for making such lacquers

In the production of lacquers containing artificial resins, particularly phenol-formaldehyde condensation products, soluble and heathardenable resins or soluble resins capable of being hardened in the presence of hardening agents are mixed with fillers and pigments, in the absence of solvents, under pressure and at a temperature sufficiently elevated to drive off volatile constituents and to render the resin plastic or liquid, but not high enough to convert the resin into its final condition. The process may be carried out in a heated masticator, or with the aid of heated kneading rollers, or the finely powdered mixture may be passed through heated nozzles under pressure. The powdered final product is then mixed with any suitable solvent, and, owing to the penetration of the resin into the grains of the filler or pigment, the resulting lacquer remains permanently homogeneous.
