[Class 120 (ii)] The winding reel or spool of a machine for winding wire is driven through differential gear c, g, h, the wheel c being fast on the winding - shaft, the wheel h being driven by a pulley at a constant speed which is the minimum winding - speed, and the carrier of the planet gear g being rotated by an electric motor n, the speed of which is varied by a rheostat controlled by a tension lever engaged by the running wire or by a wheel riding on the wound material. The Provisional Specification describes also the regulation of the motor by a liquid resistance, and an arrangement wherein the constant speed shaft is driven at the maximum winding-speed which is reduced as desired by the planet gear.
