449,547. Sound - film feeding and guiding devices. FISHER, D. P., 22, Wigan Street, Wellington, New Zealand. Dec. 28, 1934, No. 37179. [Class 40 (ii)] In apparatus for reproducing sound from a film record, uniform movement of the film is ensured by passing it over a freely-mounted heavy cylindrical roller 10, which is driven by the film before it reaches the sound-gate 5, the roller 10, to which the film is fed by an intermittent sprocket 9, being of large diameter sufficient to provide a large arc of contact with the film, and of sufficient mass to produce a steadying effect. The film also passes over a smooth roller or a sprocket 2, preferably located close to the lead-in side of the sound-gate, and having a fly-wheel 11 or the like on its spindle. which completes the elimination of irregularities of motion of the film before it enters the soundgate. The roller 10, which is centrally recessed, is pivoted at 20 on an arm 21, adjustably mounted on a pin 22, Figs. 7 and 8. An arm 27 is secured in an adjustable manner on a boss 28 formed on the arm 21, and provides a pivot bearing at 25 for another arm 24 carrying a roller 19 which, under the action of a coiled spring 29, presses the film against the heavy roller 10. With the arrangement shown, the roller 10 can be adjusted to the best position relatively to the sprocket 9, and the roller 19 may be independently set to the best position in relation to the roller 10. After leaving the sound-gate 5, the film passes over a guideroller 7 and over a resiliently-mounted jockey pulley 12, arranged as described in Specification 449,600.
