[Class 83 (iv)] In uniting metal by passing an electric current, rendering adjacent parts plastic, and allowing to set, the electrodes are prevented from moving together beyond a certain amount. As shown plates E are acted on by electrodes F, F1 and nuts M, M1 determine the amount by which the electrodes can be moved toward one another. The nuts are spring pressed and are adjusted at the commencement of an operation so as to be a short distance from the arms A, A1 which carry clamping jaws D, D1 and also the electrodes. Attached to the latter are corresponding pistons H, H' working in cylinders J, J1. Specification 424,627 is referred to.
