457,543. Testing eggs; determining sex. RAMS, P., R³ddel, near Neustadt-on- Wied, and TOLLNER, A., Cronenberg, Wuppertal, both in Germany. Feb. 8, 1935, Nos. 4085 and 4086. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 16, 1936]. [Class 28 (ii)] The sex of eggs is determined by placing the eggs in a vertical position, preferably with the pointed ends upwards, in a dark space and illuminating from below with a light intensity of 40-100 candle power, the male eggs showing a dark and a bright part while the female eggs show either a dark or a bright part. The testing is carried out in a box a having mirrors or other reflecting surfaces on the inside walls, and enclosing a light source d which is vertically and horizontally adjustable from outside the box. The intensity of the light is also adjustable as by means of a series resistance q or by the provision of a number of lamps adapted to be switched on separately. The upper cover s of the box is apertured for the reception of the eggs, and over the cover is a sheet of rubber formed with smaller apertures so that the eggs are supported in a light-tight manner. A frame u comprising a number of separate cells is supported above the cover s, and the inner walls of the cells are blackened to avoid interference.
