465,944. Transporters for building breakwaters &c. JOYCE, A. A. Oct. 7, 1935, No. 27646. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1934. [Class 78 (iv)] Comprises a combination of parts forming a travelling crane or transporter especially adapted for building breakwaters and the like and for use under other conditions which involve the use of an uneven and unsound road bed, the chief constructional features comprising a three point support for the crane, a light slueable boom with travelling load trolley guyed to a light mast which in turn is guyed rearwardly and balanced by weights attached to lateral outriggers, and the construction of the three-point support to provide room for a clear run-through for rail vehicles bringing materials to be handled by the load trolley and in some cases also with a suspended overhead track along which the trolley may run off the boom to pick up loads from the rear of the apparatus. In the illustrated form the three-point support is formed by four bogie trucks 91 running on two parallel rail tracks. Each of the forward bogies carries a pivoted leg 73 connected at the top by a crossgirder 27 while the rear pair each carry a standard, cross-connected by the girder 71. The main supporting girder 70 is connected flexibly to the centre of the girders 27, 70. The front and rear bogies are tied by members 93. The boom 42, carrying the travelling load trolley 44 and driver's cab 85, is guyed to the top of a light mast 45 by ropes 46, the mast being guyed rearwardly by the tackle 48 and laterally by ropes 49 passing to out-riggers 50 kept in position by weights 87 or by a suitable anchorage. The underside of the girder 70 may carry the rails for a suspended track in alignment with the track on the boom when the latter is in its central position, thus allowing the trolley 44 to pass from the boom to the rear of the appliance. In addition the lateral spacing of the supports on the bogies provides space for a central track along which vehicles may pass through the crane. This latter track may be picked up by the crane and transported with it as the appliance is moved forward to take up a new position as the work proceeds. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also included a construction in which the light mast was replaced by a heavier braced tower structure, while the girder 70 was also braced and substantially heavier in construction. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
