[Class 182 (i)] In a starting-gate for horses wherein the tapes are lifted by arms C on pulleys B mounted one on each standard, the pulleys B are turned by tensioned rubber cords D when abutments F are lifted by the operation of a lever M connected thereto by wires O, H and levers J. The rubber cords D may be detached from hooks G to permit the tapes to be raised slowly by hand.
