[Class 132 (ii)] A wheeled machine for marking roads, tennis courts, parking grounds, &c. includes a pad or the like adapted to be moved into and out of contact with road &c. and means for supplying paint or the like to the interior of the pad. As shown, the machine is mounted on three wheels the front wheel 4 being connected by a cable 8 to a steering bar 12. The axle 27 of the back wheels 2 is connected by chain gearing to a cam shaft 19 arranged to reciprocate (in a vertical direction) a spring-pressed ram assembly 13, Fig. 4, carrying a rubber pad 18. As the ram assembly reciprocates, it repeatedly depresses, into contact with the ground, a perforated dish-shaped pad 34 of rubber into which paint is run from a supply tank 36. A broken line is thus marked upon the ground as the machine is propelled, the propulsion being effected by a handle 6 or by a motor. For marking a continuous line, the ground wheels 2 are disconnected from the cam shaft 19 by the disengagement of a dog clutch 29 operated by a control lever 31 and flexible cable 32, the cam shaft 19 being set by means of a handle 44 and chain gearing 42 so that the pad 34 remains constantly in contact with the ground. The handle 44 may be used also to raise the marking pad from the ground during transport of the machine.
