532,739. Line-markers for roads &c. HENDERSON, W. M. Aug. 15, 1939, No. 23505. [Class 132 (ii)] A machine for painting lines on roads or other surfaces is provided with a paintapplying roller which is so operatively connected with means for delivering paint to the roller that the paint supply is automatically initiated when the roller is applied to the surface to be painted, and is automatically arrested when the roller is disengaged from the surface. The machine is propelled by a hollow handle 29 and the paint from a container 6 falls through a row of rubber tubes on to the marking roller 9 which is provided with a deformable tyre of sponge rubber. When the marking roller is lifted off the road by raising the handle 29, a spring 26 actuates bell-crank levers 20 causing a bar 13 to nip the rubber tubes against a fixed bar and thereby cut off the feed of paint. On lowering the marking wheel on to the road a link 22 returns the bell-crank levers 20 against the pressure of the spring 26 to start the feed of paint. The extent of opening of the rubber tubes may be regulated by adjusting the position of the bell-crank levers 20 by means of a cam 28 rotated by a knob 31. A pointer 32 indicates on a scale the extent of the opening. A roller 37 may be provided on one or both sides of the marking roller to distribute the paint thereover.
