摘要
502,132. Printers' composing-appliances. MOORE, C. F. Jan. 17. 1938, No. 1496. [Class 100 (iii)] Quoins.-Relates to quoins of the kind comprising members having inclined coacting surfaces and contained in a housing, one member being movable horizontally, to effect the clamping, under the action of the other member, which is moved vertically by means of a screw. According to the invention, the housing is in the form of a hollow bar of rectangular box or U-section, instead of being in the form of a solid bar, in order to lighten the weight. In one form, a steel tube 1 of rectangular section has one or more apertures 3 in one wall, through which the horizontally sliding members 4 pass, the upper and lower walls of the tube serving as guides. Each member 4 has a recess 6 to accommodate a vertically movable member 5, which is contained in the housing and is operated by a screw 16. Inclined ribs 9 on the member 5 are received in inclined grooves 8 in the member 4. Springs may be used to retract the members 4 or to draw down the members 5. In a modification, the housing is of channel-form, the base of the channel being vertical, and being either apertured from the passage of the members 4 or located adjacent to the wall of the chase.
