In an odometer fitted in the wheel of a roller skate and comprising reducing spur gears 47, 48 and 49 located within the wheel housing 10 and transmitting reduced motion to an indicator 50, the gears 47, 48 and 49 are mounted on a stub shaft 35 loosely interlocked with the wheel axle 19. These gears are each driven by one of crown wheels 41, 42, 43 which are provided with slots engaged with lugs on the wheel 10. The first spur gear is carried on an eccentric formed integrally with the stub shaft and the remaining spur gears are mounted on eccentrics which can rotate on the stub shaft. Each eccentric is rotated by a pin and slot connection with the preceding spur gear. The last spur gear drives the indicator 50 through a pin and slot connection.
